Cotton Wet Mop Care

With proper break-in and care, you can extend the life of your cotton wet mops. The first thing you should do when you get a new cotton wet mop is break it in. Breaking a mop in removes the natural oils in the cotton and improves the mop’s performance.

Follow these simple steps to break in a cotton wet mop:

Step 1:
Fill a mop bucket with water and a diluted neutral floor cleaner. Use warm water (120 degrees F – 140 degrees F) and follow the maker’s directions for use of the cleaner.

Step 2:
Immerse the mop head completely for five to ten seconds and shake it to make sure that the cleaning solution permeates the mops fibers.

Step 3:
Wring out the mop and repeat Step 2 five times.

Step 4:
Dispose of the cleaning solution you used for break in. Rinse your mop and bucket with clean water. Prepare a solution for any cleaning tasks you will be using the mop for.

Laundering cotton wet mop heads periodically will extend their useful life. Always launder them in a mesh bag using a detergent solution. Launder them at low speed, rinse them thoroughly with warm water, and tumble them dry at low temp or hand dry them.
